Jeffrey C. Leathe, MBA
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Leathe has 20 years of global managerial experience building private and public life science companies. Before joining BIOCIUS, Mr. Leathe was Senior Vice President and CFO of Biotrove where he led the IPO process; assisted in raising $32 million in mezzanine venture funding; and negotiated the sale of BioTrove to Life Technologies in December 2009. From 1990 to 2003, Mr. Leathe was the Executive Vice President and CFO of Apogent Technologies. At Apogent, Mr. Leathe was one of the chief architects of the business strategy and was the key driver of the plan execution resulting in twenty fold growth for the company. From a $45 million LBO to a $1.2 billion, 7,048 employee, NYSE listed public company Apogent became, according to Forbes magazine, one of the best managed health care companies in America. Over this time, Apogent also became New Hampshire’s largest firm and was subsequently sold to Fisher Scientific for approximately $4 billion. 

Mr. Leathe is a director and is chairman of the audit committee for Bottomline Technologies, a NASDAQ listed software company. He is also a director of Integra Biosciences, a private life science firm based in Zurich, Switzerland and the Exeter Trust Company, a subsidiary of Manning and Napier Advisors of New York. Mr. Leathe is a director, member of the executive committee, and chair of the endowment committee of the Senator George J. Mitchell Research Scholarship Institute and is an Incorporator and the President of the Marshwood Education Foundation.  Jeff received his MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, his B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and holds his CPA.

Can C. Özbal, PhD
Chief Operating Officer

Dr. Özbal is responsible for much of the RapidFire® Lead Discovery development. His extensive background includes bioanalytical chemistry, chromatography, and instrumentation design experience. He has an A.B. with honors from Bowdoin College and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to joining BIOCIUS, Dr. Özbal served as the Vice President and General Manager of BioTrove’s RapidFire® business unit, where he built a strong team and led the successful spin-out of BIOCIUS. Previously, Dr. Özbal was an instructor in the Division of Bioengineering and Environmental Health, now part of the Department of Biological Engineering, at M.I.T.

Gary M. St. Pierre, MBA
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. St. Pierre brings to BIOCIUS more than 25 years' experience in financial operations, including senior management positions in multi-national firms. Prior to BIOCIUS, Mr. St. Pierre managed the finances of various high tech and life science companies, including BioTrove, Inc. and Apogent Technologies, Inc. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Dartmouth College and an Executive M.B.A from the University of New Hampshire.

William A. LaMarr, PhD
Vice President, Research and Contract Services

Dr. LaMarr has been working with the RapidFire instrumentation since the initial commercialization of the platform. His background and experience are in the fields of enzymology, toxicology, bioanalytical chemistry and assay design. Prior to joining BIOCIUS, Dr. LaMarr served as Senior Director for BioTrove’s RapidFire® business unit, where he led the contract services laboratory. Previously, Dr. LaMarr was a Senior Scientist at Microbiotix, Inc. in an active drug discovery program investigating several unique and exclusive antibacterial and antiviral projects. Dr. LaMarr holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Hofstra University and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Donald Green, MSE
Vice President of Product Development

Mr. Green is a seasoned software and systems engineer with over 15 years of experience successfully developing and commercializing new systems and technologies. Before joining BIOCIUS Mr. Green managed the system engineering group for the Talon Robotics Program at Foster Miller, Inc.; created and ran a successful engineering consulting business, Mekinesis, Inc.; served as a founding employee and software engineering manager at BioTrove, Inc.; and was a founding employee and senior software engineer at Bluefin Robotics. Mr. Green received his MSME from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a BA in Computer Science from Boston College.

Arrin Katz, MSE
Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Katz brings to BIOCIUS more than 12 years experience in automation and system design experience. Prior to BIOCIUS, Mr. Katz has served as Director of Engineering at BioTrove where he managed design, development and manufacturing of RapidFire® instrumentation as well as development of high precision nanofluidic dispensing systems. He worked on robotic systems for planetary exploration while at M.I.T. and developed clean room compatible material handling and storage equipment while at PRI Automation. He earned a S.M. in Mechanical Engineering from M.I.T. and a B.A.Sc. with Honors in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.

Selena S. Larkin, PhD MBA
Vice President of Global Sales

Dr. Larkin has over ten years of experience in commercial representation of innovative technologies including capital equipment, reagents and laboratory services. Before joining BIOCIUS she held global responsibility for sales of BioTrove’s RapidFire® instrumentation as Director of Business Development. Selena holds a B.Sc. with honors and a Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne, Australia, and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland, School of Business & Executive Programs, where she currently serves as an Adjunct Professor, specializing in Leadership of Global Teams.

Jennifer M. Rossi, PhD
Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications

Dr. Rossi has an extensive strategy and marketing background in the life sciences field. Before joining BIOCIUS, Dr. Rossi was responsible for RapidFire marketing at BioTrove and was instrumental in the BIOCIUS spin-out. She has held the position of Associate Director of Sales & Marketing and International Business Development Manager at 5 PRIME, Inc, and marketing roles at Qiagen and Cohesive Technologies. Dr. Rossi has a B.S. and a M.S. in Biological Sciences from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Brown University.
